Interfacing Technologies

Chronic Interfacing
Develop techniques to sustain chronic interfaces between electronics and neural tissue.
3-D Technologies
Develop microfluidic and microelectronic structures for interfacing to 3-D neural tissue.

Overview

Stable interfacing of external electronics to nervous tissue has significant implications for our understanding of neuronal function, and for the design of ‘intelligent’ neuroprosthetic devices.

Goals

  • implement technology for recording from and stimulating neural tissue in vitro and in vivo
  • develop neuro-integrative coatings with embedded neuro-adhesive and neuotrophic properties
  • create long-term cultures on multi-electrode arrays (MEAs) to study plasticity and learning
